Organise your bag into three groups
A compact soft day bag is usually easier to handle than a hard suitcase. Keep the things you may need during the trip accessible, and do not leave loose belongings in walkways.
- Wear and carry: comfortable clothes, easy-to-manage footwear, a hat that can be secured, sunglasses and your usual sun-protection items.
- For getting wet: swimwear or a rash guard, a complete dry change including underwear, and a separate bag for wet clothing.
- Keep dry: phone protection, a small dry pouch for essentials, any personal necessities and your saved meeting point and booking contact. Bring only the valuables you actually need.
Choose clothing for sitting, stairs and the return journey
Lightweight clothes that allow you to step, sit and use stairs comfortably are a practical starting point. If you want photographs in a dress or a special outfit, bring it separately from what you will wear for boarding and moving around the boat. Long loose fabric can be awkward in the wind or near equipment.
After swimming, change out of wet clothes before the return journey or getting into a transfer vehicle. A light cover-up can be useful for the breeze or an air-conditioned saloon. Do not assume every yacht has a private changing room, shower or cabin available throughout a day charter; ask where guests can change.

Ask about shoes before you step on board
Choose flat footwear that is secure and practical on the marina walkway. High heels and shoes with hard, slippery soles are poor choices for moving between the pier and boat. A loose sandal that feels fine on a beach may be awkward on steps.
Onboard rules vary: the crew may ask guests to remove shoes or use suitable non-marking footwear. Water shoes are not automatically approved for every deck. Follow the crew's instructions, stow removed footwear where indicated and use the offered handholds or assistance when boarding.
Separate wet gear from your phone and dry clothes
A waterproof phone pouch and a bag for wet swimwear serve different purposes. Check that the pouch is intact and closes correctly before putting your phone inside; an ordinary tote is not waterproof protection. Keep dry clothes in a separate protected compartment rather than beside wet towels.
Take small electronics out only when you are using them, and store them before swimming or using a slide. Do not leave a phone or power bank on a wet table or exposed deck. If the yacht provides towels, you still need somewhere to put your own wet clothing.
What might the yacht provide, and what should you check?
Use the final inclusions for your selected yacht, not a checklist copied from another boat. - Confirm before packing less: towels, drinking water, soft drinks, ice, changing arrangements and any equipment you intend to use. Ask about sizes for children where relevant.
- Confirm separately: meals, alcoholic drinks, transfers, marina or island fees and paid water sports. A BBQ grill or drinks shown in a photograph does not mean a meal or alcohol is included.
If bringing your own food or drink matters, ask about permission, storage, serving equipment, possible service charges and restrictions on containers. Tell the team about food allergies or dietary needs in advance; do not assume the crew can accommodate them on the day.
Adjust the bag for children, swimmers and guests staying on deck
For children, add their usual essentials and an extra dry change. Follow the crew's instructions and keep adult supervision in place; a float or pool is not a substitute.
Guests who will not swim can usually leave swimwear out and focus on shade, comfortable seating and personal items. Confirm the planned activities before deciding. - Any passenger information or identification the operator has specifically requested. Do not assume a passport is always required or never required; confirm what form of identification is needed.
